This technical specification covers the 900 g/m² PVC-coated polyester material used in selected Sapphire commercial vehicle side curtains. It provides the principal material composition, construction and tested performance values for the fabric.
The specification relates to the curtain material itself. The construction, reinforcement and associated components of a finished curtain assembly will depend on its intended application and the requirements of the vehicle body.
Material construction
- Total weight: 900 g/m², tested to ISO 2286-2:2016.
- Composition: polyester and PVC.
- Base fabric: 1100 dtex polyester yarn in both the warp and weft directions, tested to DIN ISO 2060:1994.
- Surface finish: glossy lacquer on the front and back.
Mechanical performance
Warp refers to the yarns running lengthways through the woven base fabric, while weft refers to those running across it. Values are provided for both directions where applicable.
- Breaking strength: 4000 N/5 cm in both the warp and weft directions, tested to ISO 1421:2016.
- Tear strength: 600 N in the warp direction and 500 N in the weft direction, tested to DIN 53363:2003.
- Adhesion: 100 N/5 cm, tested to ISO 2411:2017.
Environmental and surface performance
- Temperature resistance: −40°C to +70°C, tested to EN 1876-1:1998.
- Light fastness: rating 7–8, tested to ISO 105-B02:2014.
- Fire behaviour: less than 100 mm/min, tested to ISO 3795:1989.
These figures should be used as the material specification for the applicable PVC side curtain fabric rather than as performance values for every curtain manufactured by Sapphire. The final curtain design and specification must be selected for the intended vehicle and operating requirements.
