The EN 12195 series addresses load restraining on road vehicles. It supports a systematic approach to selecting and using securing methods and restraint assemblies.
Calculation and equipment
EN 12195-1 addresses the calculation of securing forces for methods including blocking and lashing. Other parts of the series cover restraint assemblies, including web lashings made from man-made fibres.
What this means in practice
A strap or net cannot be selected solely from the weight of the load. The securing method must also consider load movement, friction, direction of forces, vehicle anchorage points, equipment ratings and the way the cargo is arranged.
Inspection and use
Load-restraint equipment should be identifiable, compatible with the securing system and inspected for wear or damage. Follow the equipment instructions and remove unsuitable items from service.
This overview is not a load-securing calculation. Refer to the applicable current standards and competent guidance for a specific vehicle and load.
