Steel D rings provide fixed attachment points for 50mm cross-straps, allowing individual rows of cargo to be restrained within a curtainsider. The zinc-plated D rings are secured into the curtain using the vertical webbing of a strap-in-pocket curtain, creating a durable restraint solution for a wide range of transport operations.
Designed for new strap-in-pocket curtains
Internal D rings are incorporated during the manufacture of new strap-in-pocket curtains and are not suitable for curtains with bonded webbing straps. The completed curtains can be fitted to both new and existing trailers.
Where an existing curtain is being retained, a practical retrofit alternative is to install a continuous 5-tonne horizontal webbing strap along the length of the curtain and attach D rings to that assembly. Alternatively, the complete curtain can be replaced with a new curtain incorporating integrated D rings.
Cross-strap layouts
The D rings are intended for use with standard 50mm cross-straps fitted with snap hooks. Although the number of horizontal rows can be specified to suit the application, two rows are typical for many operations.
D rings are normally positioned in line with the curtain's vertical webbing straps, typically at approximately 600mm centres. The height and number of rows can be configured to suit the vehicle and the load being carried.
Typical applications
This arrangement is commonly specified for securing roll cages and roll pallets, allowing individual rows of the load to be cross-strapped as required.
Strength and compliance
Each zinc-plated steel D ring is typically rated at 2 tonnes. When used as part of a complete cross-strap assembly, the overall EN 12195-2 rating is determined by the weakest component within that assembly. A typical installation would therefore provide a lashing capacity (LC) of 1 tonne.
Unlike LoadLok track, internal D rings do not require a permanent steel track to be fitted along the inside of the curtainsider. This avoids compromising side access while still providing fixed attachment points for cross-straps. Best practice for load restraint should always follow the requirements of EN 12195-2 together with the DVSA guidance on securing loads on HGVs and goods vehicles.
