Side nets are fitted vertically inside the main curtains of a curtainsider and form a secondary load containment barrier.
Mounting and tensioning
The nets are roof-mounted and are typically tensioned at the side raves. They may be secured beneath the rave or tensioned using pull-up lashing posts fitted on top of the side rave.
Material options
Although commonly described as “nets”, the material can vary according to the application. The barrier may also be manufactured from solid PVC curtain material where additional durability is required.
Secondary load containment
Without an internal side net, a load that has shifted or collapsed during transit may fall from the vehicle when the primary curtain is opened. This can present a risk to the person opening the curtain and to unloading personnel.
A secondary inner barrier helps contain the load while the primary curtain is opened, allowing the condition and safety of the load to be assessed before unloading begins.
Load-hugger side nets for brewery operations
For many brewery operations, the side nets are angled inwards at the top to create a trapezium-shaped “load hugger”. This configuration is designed to contact and compress the top of barrel or keg stacks, helping to make them more stable during transit.
